The Half Marathon that I've been looking at also has a 10K... And I think I might be tempted to run that instead. This past month has been terrible for my running dreams. (The kids were sick, so I couldn't go to the YMCA, I was sick, I didn't make healthy meals, etc) So I'm just running a couple miles. I'll get up to 4 regularly in the next couple weeks, but a 10K (what is that, 6.2 miles?) sounds infinitely more achievable than 13.1 miles.
BUT.
If you really want, I'll just keep training for where I am, and suck it up and start fulfilling my dreams. :)
I'm not sure which I would be happier doing. I think my training will be the same, though. I think I'll be at a place where 6 miles is definitely do-able, and 13 looks scary...but so much more satisfying afterward.
So, I guess I'm just saying I might sort of chicken out. And "only" run a 10K. But, than again, maybe not. There's still time. :)

Goals
Those sound like great goals and great accomplishments! I have to remind myself that gradual progression is okay and not to get discouraged.
I am running just over three miles consistently but my goal is this week is to up it each day and get up to 6 miles by Saturday. I will then start working on my time and try and get faster.
I am also watching what I am eating and making sure to get a lot of fruit and veggies.
Can I just say that I love spring/summer because it is so light in the mornings. I was used to running in the dark at 6 am and now it is so light!!!
I also have a goal to run a 10k in the middle of June and there is also a triathlon near the end of June. I am not sure if I am going to do that or not but it looks SO much fun!

Goals??
I'm up way too late, and I've tried to convince myself to be tired and get some sleep. It hasn't worked yet. So, I'm thinking about my goals for this half, and wondering where you girls stand, too.
I'm trying to convince John to train/run this half with us. We'll see.
I want to finish the half in under 2 hours, and will be happy if it's just under 2.5 hours. A month ago I could run 2 miles at a constant 10:00 mile pace, which was pushing my limits, and I can run 12:00 miles easily, so somewhere in that range would be good for me--what about you??
I seriously want/need to lose some weight. I'm thinking 20 pounds. I'm fairly certain that because I have this half as a rapidly approaching goal, that I'll automatically make some different choices regarding the foods I consume (more vegetables, less chocolate), which combined with running should make all the difference.
I've been swimming and doing yoga and walking with a few friends, and I want to keep up with those, as cross training. I'm not planning on doing anything dramatic, just doing something non-running most days.
I think I really want to run a mile in under 8 minutes again. That would be something to grin about for days.
When I ran my two 10:00 miles on a treadmill at our fitness center in our apartment complex, I came back rather proud of myself and completely worn out... John wasn't nearly as impressed as I thought he should be, so I sent him out to run 2 miles in 20 minutes to see if he could. He couldn't. I know it doesn't sound fast or anything, but I was really proud of myself. I did a good job. It's difficult for me to remember that the body I have now is different from the body I ran in 10 years ago, and that it's okay to be proud of any accomplishments I do now, just as I could be proud of myself then.
Where are you now? What are your goals?
I'm totally okay with not staying together to run this half-marathon, by the way. I am kind of assuming that I'm slower than you guys, at least right now. I have time to catch up. :)

Great Idea!
July 11th sounds perfect for me! We will all be here for it too and we can all train together and give each other ideas and motivation - hence the blog.
I am so excited because I have decided that I would like to be a "runner." Here is my first step I guess.
Hint: find 5ks in the area and do some of those to help you get in the habit of racing - because being in a race and running for fun is completely different.

Half Marathon?
So, are you girls up for a half-marathon? There's one in Utah on July 11th, which I think I could stick around for, up in Henefer. What do you think? Want to do it???
It's a little crazy for me, but would totally be good motivation for those days and weeks when I need something to get me out the door.
July 11th is in 11 weeks. There's a 12 week training schedule found here. I think I'll just hack a week off somewhere, or maybe combine the first three weeks into two, or something.
